Racing Course Pre-Pro Research: Stunts and Traps
Tagline: "The Last Breath of an Ancient Civilization"
Amidst the ideas I have in mind for this course, there's a few things from other games and movies I'd like to reference for their design. Some are just the mechanic, others are the traps/stunt setups themselves. I'll be sure to upload some isometric drawings.
Mario Kart DS: Bowser's Castle
Reference around 0:50. The shifting platforms could be an interesting mechanic.
Jet Car Stunts 2
Reference after 1:27. The 90 degree U-Turn is an interesting point of reference.
Speed Racer Movie
Point of interest after 1:08. The incredibly vertical downward slope is a fascinating idea.
Robbie Maddison's Jump in Los Vegas
This entire video gives the interesting idea of using a ramp to get to a higher spot, making a U-turn or any other actions, and returning back down on a ramp.
A few fast drawings:
Dual function: Stunt and trap. Platform will lower and oncoming drivers can drive upwards to a ramp. Players under are at risk of being crushed by the pillar or having to make an effort to drive around it.
Dual function: stunt and trap. Rooms shift left and right continuously. Traps in some such as retractable floor spikes, walls that crush drivers from the side, and smoke dispensers to blind players temporarily. The more "safer" rooms have ramps in them the players can use.
Single function: stunt. This stunt is a 90 degree angled U-turn with an added shortcut should the driver continue on their path to the side rather than down the center of the track.
A fast drawing of the track overview. Still up for fixing and adjusting.
